Kenny Greene

  • Kenny Greene was born on January 17th, 1969.

  • He listed in the army at 18 years old and was son playing the piano and performing in military talent shows.

  • While in the army, he met Clinton “Buddy” Mike and Nelson Brown. The trio formed a group, Intro (Innovative New Talent Reaching Out). 

  • DJ Eddie F and Heavy D discovered the group in 1990.

  • Kenny and Clinton asked to be discharged from the military while Nelson stayed and was replaced by Jeff Sanders. The group signed with Untouchables Entertainment / Atlantic Records in 1992.

  • Kenny was the lead singer and wrote and produced most of the group’s songs. He also wrote 3 songs on Mary J. Blige’s What’s the 411? album; “Reminisce,” “My Love, and “Love No Limit.” 

  • He also worked with Will Smith, 98 Degreez, Cam’ron, and Tyrese.

  • In 1993, he tied with Dave Jam Hall, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for ASCAP’s Songwriter of the Year award. 

  • His last musical contributions were the background vocals on Tyrese’s song, “For Always,” from his 2000 Watts album.

  • A few months before his death, he revealed in an interview with Sister 2 Sister magazine that he was bisexual and suffering from AIDS.

  • Kenny Greene died on October 1st, 2001 from AIDS-related complications. He was 32 years old.
