David Cole

  • David Cole was born on June 3rd, 1962.

  • He grew up in the church as the choir’s keyboardist and later went on to work with Bruce Forest, at his nightclub Better Days, and play live keyboards over existing records.

  • He met Robert Clivillé at Better Days and together they were apart of groups like 2 Puerto Ricans, a Blackman, and a Dominican, The 28th Street Crew, Brat Pack, and of course, C+C Music Factory.

  • As C+C Music Factory they are best known for their chart topping hits, “Here We Go (Let’s Rock & Roll,” Things That Make You Go Hmmm…”, Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now), and “Just a Touch of Love.” 

  • As a producing/songwriting duo, they were also apart of hits for stars like Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, and James Brown. Their work with Mariah Carey includes “Emotions,” “Make It Happen,” “You’re So Cold,” To Be Around You” and the subsequent remixes of those tracks.

  • He can be seen playing the piano during Mariah Carey’s MTV Unplugged concert special.

  • The duo went on to win a Grammy for their work on “It’s Gonna Be a Lovely Day” (The S.O.U.L. S.Y.S.T.E.M) from The Bodyguard soundtrack.

  • David Cole died on January 24th, 1995 from spinal meningitis, allegedly a result of him suffering from AIDS. He was 32 years old.

  • His death was one of the main inspirations for Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day, with the singers dedicated the song to him.
