Tandi Iman Dupree
Tandi Iman Dupree was born on August 13th, 1978.
In high school she was the co-captain of her school’s majorette squad.
She got her start competing at the N-Cognito nightclub in Memphis and went on to travel the country and wow audiences.
Her dream was to be crowned Miss Gay Black America.
Her 2001 Miss Gay Black America performance features one of the greatest entrances of all time, not just in drag but in any context: she drops from the ceiling dressed as Wonder Woman and lands in a perfectly timed split as Bonnie Tyler’s vocals are about to start on “Holding Out for a Hero.”
A video uploaded on YouTube in 2009 of her performance currently has 2.5 million views.
Tandi Iman Dupree died from AIDS-related compliactions on December 31st, 2005. She was 27 years old.
